Taj Mahal History


Taj Mahal is one of the most visited monuments of India, located in Agra city of Uttar Pradesh state. With its incomparable beauty this opulent building is listed among the seven wonders of the world. Situated at the bank of river Yamuna, this massive structure is also called as the symbol of the immortal love. Agra Taj Mahal History
Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the sweet memory of his beautiful wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is said that the name Taj Mahal is derived from the name of beautiful princess Mumtaz Mahal. Taj Mahal means the 'Crown Palace', this matchless building is really like a crown to the Agra city.

According to India Taj Mahal history the construction of this lavish building was started in 1631 AD with the orders of Shah Jahan. He built this building in the memory of his most beautiful wife Arjumand Bano Begum, whom he (Shah Jahan) honored with the name Mumtaz Mahal. She died at the time of giving birth to the 14th child of Shah Jahan.

More than twenty thousand artisans and workers were labored during the construction of Taj Mahal, and after 22 years it's construction was completed in 1653 AD. Many skilled craftsmen, stone carvers and calligraphers were called across the country as well as other places like Persia and Turkey. During the construction of this magnificent building total 32 crore rupees were spent.

The architecture of Taj Mahal is based on Islamic architecture. It is a rich fusion of Mughal, Persian and Central Asian styles of architecture. The interior of Taj Mahal is superbly adorned with delicate carvings, jaalidar arches, beautiful tiles and impressive stone works, that mesmerize everyone.
